Spend an unforgettable weekend exploring and photographing the natural beauty of Slick Rock Creek in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.
Limited to just four participants, this intimate photography adventure provides rare access to private photography locations, wildlife viewing areas, hummingbird and songbird photography setups, scenic creek landscapes, and some of the most beautiful light found in the Texas Hill Country. A private photographic retreat with again, only four participants, gourmet food, luxury accommodations, wildlife opportunities, campfires, fellowship, fine-art printing, and access to locations and local knowledge unavailable to the general public.
This is not a traditional photography workshop.
The focus is not classroom instruction, assignments, or lectures. Instead, the weekend is designed around the experience of photography itself—exploring, observing, discovering, and creating images in a remarkable natural setting.
Over the course of the weekend, Kevin Vandivier shares the locations, wildlife habits, seasonal opportunities, and photographic insights he has gathered while developing this property and photographing along Slick Rock Creek. Participants will discover where wildlife is most likely to appear, which locations work best in specific lighting conditions, and how to position themselves for the strongest photographic opportunities throughout the day.
Guests are free to photograph at their own pace while taking advantage of carefully developed photography locations, guided scouting walks, wildlife setups, and access to areas that many visitors would simply overlook.
Questions are always welcome, and teachable moments naturally occur throughout the adventure. However, the emphasis remains on exploration, fellowship, creativity, and the enjoyment of making photographs.
Whether your passion is wildlife photography, bird photography, landscape photography, nature photography, or visual storytelling, the Slick Rock Creek Photographic Weekend offers a unique opportunity to experience the Texas Hill Country through the eyes of a professional photographer while creating images of your own.
The weekend concludes with each participant receiving a beautiful 13×19 fine art print of a favorite image created during the adventure.
Optional On-Site Lodging
For those wishing to fully immerse themselves in the Slick Rock Creek Photographic Weekend, two private guest suites are available on-site.
The accommodations are similar to what you would expect from a high-end bed and breakfast, featuring comfortable private bedrooms, private bathrooms, and thoughtfully appointed furnishings designed to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable.
Wake up just steps away from hummingbirds, songbirds, wildlife, and the first light of day on Slick Rock Creek. Enjoy fresh coffee in the morning and return each evening to good food, great conversation, and the comfort of your own private accommodations.
Because only two guest suites are available, lodging is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and may be reserved by the first two participants selecting the lodging option.
ITENERARY
Friday
5:00 PM – Welcome Gathering
Arrive, settle in, meet fellow photographers, and enjoy refreshments while becoming acquainted with the property and the weekend ahead.
6:00 PM – Sunset Photography Adventure
Photograph the beautiful evening light along Slick Rock Creek, explore wildlife photography locations, and begin discovering the many photographic opportunities found throughout the property.
After Sunset – Campfire Fellowship
Gather around the fire pit for conversation, photography stories, evening snacks, and fellowship beneath the Texas stars.
Saturday
6:00 AM – Sunrise Photography
Early morning is one of the most productive times of the day for photography. Photograph hummingbirds, songbirds, wildlife, creek scenes, landscapes, and the beautiful changing light of dawn.
9:00 AM – Breakfast & Conversation
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast while discussing photography, travel, visual storytelling, and the many photographic opportunities available throughout the day.
10:30 AM – Reading the Land: A Photographer’s Field Walk
Join Kevin for a guided scouting walk through the property and along Slick Rock Creek. Discover hidden photography locations, wildlife activity areas, scenic viewpoints, and learn which locations are best photographed under different lighting conditions throughout the day.
12:30 PM – Gourmet Lunch
2:00 PM – Open Photography Adventure
Photograph at your own pace. Spend time with the hummingbirds, work the bird photography setups, explore the trails, photograph landscapes, scout future locations, or simply relax and enjoy the beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
5:00 PM – Evening Wildlife & Sunset Photography
Position yourself for wildlife photography opportunities or settle into your favorite landscape location as the golden evening light returns. Foxes, raccoons, birds, and scenic subjects all become active photographic possibilities.
After Sunset – Campfire Cookout & Fellowship
Enjoy a relaxed evening around the fire pit with good food, great conversation, photography stories, and fellowship. Guests are welcome to roast hot dogs or sausage over the fire while sharing images and experiences from the day.
Sunday
6:00 AM – Final Sunrise Photography Session
A final opportunity to photograph the wildlife, birds, landscapes, and beautiful morning light of Slick Rock Creek.
9:00 AM – Image Selection, Processing & Fine Art Printing
Each participant selects a favorite image from the weekend. Kevin will demonstrate his personal post-processing workflow while helping participants prepare their image for printing. Guests will leave with a beautiful 13×19 fine art print created from one of their favorite photographs from the adventure.
11:00 AM – Adventure Concludes
Farewells, final photographs, and departure.
